Multi-Use Modular Hand Fixation System

Small Bone Innovations, LLC has announced the launch of its SBI Universal Hand System™ (UHS). The UHS materials platform is ‘cold-worked’ 316L stainless steel, consisting of 3 implant modules (1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, and 2.4 mm) with full instrumentation and a K-wire module with color-coded titanium wires in various sizes and styles. The system features low-profile plates in a variety of anatomically designed sculptured plates, including 3 different "ladder" or H-plates in each of the 3 modules and scalloped compression straight L-, T-, and Y-plates that provide improved contouring ability.

The UHS is designed for use in a wide spectrum of trauma and reconstructive procedures for the hand. It includes a low-profile 2.0-mm condylar tined plate for fractures near the joints and a ‘zigzag’ plate for comminuted phalangeal fractures.

Cross-linked Polyethylene Liner

Wright Medical Group, Inc announced the launch of its wear-reducing A-CLASS™ Polyethylene Liner for the LINEAGE® Acetabular Hip System. Recently granted marketing clearance by the Food and Drug Administration, Wright's A-CLASS™ Polyethylene Liner is produced with a proprietary cross-linking process that makes it significantly more wear-resistant than traditional LINEAGE® polyethylene liners, thereby reducing the potential for dissolution of adjacent bone due to osteolysis.

Wright Medical notes that while traditional LINEAGE® polyethylene liners have an excellent clinical history of wear resistance, laboratory testing has shown that the A-CLASS™ Polyethylene Liner reduces the generation of wear debris by up to 94% when compared with current LINEAGE® polyethylene liners.

Communication Tool

SpineConnect offers a web-based application that enables surgeons to reach a broad community and capture shared critical information and data so that it can be leveraged and re-used when appropriate instead of only collaborating and communicating on patient cases within peer groups through ad-hoc processes such as email, phone, and faxes. Users can share problems, experiences, insights, templates, tools, and best practices by collaborating in real time through seamless advanced communication tools to get answers to patient cases immediately.

SpineConnect is designed to simplify the collection of case data through an advanced search engine using key words, date range, mechanism of injury, region, and injury type to quickly locate and identify cases. Drop-down menus ask for HIPAA-compliant data such as the area of injury, injury type, pertinent positives, patient history, and whether the case is emergent, urgent, or elective. Users automatically receive a list of existing solutions or cases with characteristics similar to the one entered. SpineConnect’s case database is constantly updated for use in gathering data for researching new and existing products, developing better techniques, or obtaining information on best practices. It also provides tools including smart message filters to easily organize and view cases. Users can track their responses to cases, view their own submitted cases and responses, and see all existing open cases in one location. All the pertinent data is stored with the case, so surgeons don't need to search across multiple systems or pull data from different sources.

SpineConnect is available only to board-eligible or board-certified spine surgeons, and only through invitation. To request an invitation, please contact SpineConnect at (970)385-4250 or e-mail at info@syndicom.com.
