NEWLY AVAILABLE, NEWLY APPROVED
Posterior MIS
Cervical Access
|
Endius Incorporated has announced the
availability of NexPosure™, a new product that
provides surgeons with minimally
invasive access to the posterior
cervical spine. Endius CEO Michael
McCarthy noted that it enables "4-level procedures or more through
an MIS approach..."
Based on the company’s FlexPosure® access platform developed
for minimally invasive lumbar
surgery, NexPosure provides for
minimally invasive access to the
posterior cervical region of the
spine, sparing crucial muscles and
attachments in this region of the
spine. Endius comments that, just
as preserving precious muscles in
the lumbar region reduces tissue
trauma and postoperative pain and
speeds return to normal activities
of daily living, the same results can
be expected in the cervical region.
NexPosure features include
oval pivoting tube in all planes
for effective binocular visualization
and access to the posterior
spine; radiolucence, enabling spinal
landmarks to be viewed, while
light shading of device under fluoroscopy
enables easy identification
of exposed area; a biased skirt,
providing a targeted approach to
cervical spine and upper thoracic
anatomy; and the availability of
variable lengths to accommodate
variability among patients. NexPosure’s
locking and pliable skirt is
designed to enable effective minimally
invasive exposure with lower
intramuscular pressures generated
than by traditional rigid retractors.

New lateral
rHead™ Elbow
Implant
|
Small Bone Innovations, Inc. has
announced the addition of its
new Lateral rHead™ implant to
its family of Elbow Management
System products.
The Lateral rHead™ is composed
of a uniquely designed
mechanical couple between the
head and stem components. The
couple does not require a set
screw and is provided with an
easy-to-use assembly tool that
can be used in vivo or on the
“
back table” to quickly assemble
the head to the stem component.
Like the company’s rHead™
and rHead™ Recon products,
the head and stem components
are fully modular. The Lateral
rHead™ head is highly polished
cobalt chrome (CoCr). The stem
is cobalt chrome (CoCr) with the
stem and collar buttress coated
with plasma-sprayed commercially pure titanium (CPTi). The
Lateral rHead received a 510(k)
clearance from the U.S. FDA in
December, 2006.
The Lateral rHead™ provides
surgeons with yet another
option for treating radial head
f ractures and disease. The
design is said to allow for lateral
access and placement, which is
less invasive in terms of surgical
site exposure and soft-tissue
dissection, minimizing ligamentous
release required during the
surgical procedure. The maker
points out that it also facilitates
placement and repair in this
rest r ict ive anatomy, requires
minimal resection of the lateral
collateral ligament, and preserves
the annular ligament.

Tendon Protector
Sheet
Integra LifeSciences Holdings
Corporation announced that they
have received 510(k) clearance
from the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration to market Teno-Glide™ Tendon Protector Sheet
in the United States.
TenoGlide™ Tendon Protector
Sheet is indicated for the
management and protection of
tendon injuries in which there
has been no substantial loss of
tendon tissue. This tendon protection
device is composed of
a porous matrix of cross-linked
collagen and glycosaminoglycan
(GAG). The collagen-GAG
resorbable matrix is said to provide
a protective, biocompatible
interface that creates a favorable
environment and gliding surface
for tendon healing.
Since tendon and peripheral
nerve injuries often occur
together, TenoGlide™ Tendon
Protector Sheet can be used in
conjunction with NeuraGen®Nerve Guide for completely
transected nerves, and wi th
NeuraWrap™ Nerve Protector
for nerve injuries, which include
compressed or scarred nerves.
