NEWLY AVAILABLE, NEWLY APPROVED
CERVICAL PLATE
SYSTEM
|
K2M, Inc., a spinal device company developing
solutions for the treatment of complex
spinal pathologies and procedures,
has announced the phase II launch
of its PYRENEES™ Cervical Plate
System.
PYRENEES’ low profile features
a 1.5-mm leading edge that potentially
minimizes patient discomfort, particularly
esophageal irritation. In addition,
this system offers low-profile drill
guides, allowing for optimal viewing
of the bone graft window. The tifix® Locking
Technology requires no additional locking
mechanism, whereby each screw head forms
an autogenic, or self-producing, lock
to the plate. With screw flexibility
of up to 45 conical degrees and a corresponding
low-torque driver, PYRENEES is said
to combine the benefits of multidirectional
screw placement with a rigid plate,
for optimal stability yet flexibility.
The tifix Locking Technology ensures
that the screw will lock to the plate
at increased angles. Surgeons can also
conduct screw adjustments or realignments
without compromising the locking feature.

NEW SPINAL SYSTEM
|
X-spine Systems, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of spinal implant systems,
has obtained FDA clearance to market its new Capless LI™ Pedicle Screw
System. The system builds upon X-spine’s proprietary Capless™ polyaxial
screw locking technology by offering a more compact screw unit, increased screw
angulation, screw cannulation and tissue-sparing retraction. The Capless LI
is designed to address the increasing need for reduced tissue disruption during
spinal fixation procedures. It allows for several less invasive options for
screw placement, including over-wire, mini-open, and muscle-sparing approaches.
The company notes that the new system includes all the benefits of the Capless
locking technology, which allows for screw locking without the problems endemic
to separate locking caps or setscrews.
